Comparison · AI phone agent for restaurants, integrated with Now Book It

Calso vs Sadie

Two AI phone agents that answer an Australian venue's calls, built for different jobs. The deciding question is whether you need the booking written into your diary.

The honest summary

Both answer an Australian venue's phone, and they split on what happens next. Sadie is a reservation receptionist, and on its Reserves tier it does something Calso does not: it books, modifies and cancels directly in your reservation system, and it can take a deposit at the same time. If a booking that lands in the diary without anyone retyping it is what you are buying, that is the honest recommendation and this page will not talk you out of it. Calso answers the phone and hands the enquiry to a person, and then keeps going past the phone into supplier ordering and the invoices waiting on you, on one published price. The two are not really the same product.

Pick Sadie if…

  • You are on Now Book It, SevenRooms, OpenTable or Libro and you want phone bookings written straight into the diary.
  • You want deposits taken on the call to cut no-shows.
  • You want an established product distributed through a major Australian booking platform rather than an early one.

Pick Calso if…

  • You run a paper diary, a spreadsheet, or a booking system nobody integrates with, so the enquiry has to reach a person either way.
  • The phone is only part of the problem: supplier orders and invoices are eating your week too.
  • You want a published price you can compare, and to hear the thing before you commit.

The question that actually decides it

Does the booking need to land in your diary by itself? If yes, Sadie's Reserves tier does that and Calso does not, and no amount of other capability closes that gap for you. If your bookings already pass through a person, because you run a paper diary or a system nobody writes into, then that difference costs you nothing and the comparison moves to what else the two do. That is the whole decision, and it is worth being clear about it before anything else on this page.

What each one is actually for

Sadie is distributed through a reservation platform, and it shows in the best way: it is a reservation receptionist, tightly wired into the diary. Calso started from a different question, which is that an owner-operator's week is not only bookings. It is the supplier who needs the weekly order by Tuesday, the invoice that is nine days overdue, and the phone ringing through both. Calso answers the phone and then keeps working on the ordering and the invoices behind it. If bookings are genuinely your whole phone problem, the narrower tool is the better tool.

On price, and how to compare it honestly

Sadie publishes tiers on heysadie.ai, listed at the time of writing as Answers and Reserves, with the reservation features on the higher tier and unlimited minutes stated on the pricing page. Check the current figures and the currency on their page rather than trusting a number retyped here, and note that Now Book It also bundles Sadie into its own quoted pricing, which is a different commercial arrangement. Calso is $199 a month in Australian dollars, one tier, with every dollar refunded if you tell us inside 30 days of your first payment that it is not right. The comparison worth making is not the headline number, it is which tier does the job you actually need.

The part where we are behind

Sadie is an established product distributed through a major Australian booking platform. Calso is early, built by one person in Melbourne, and is not yet running at that scale. That is a real reason to choose them, and an owner weighing a phone identity and a booking diary is right to weigh it. What we offer against it is that you can hear Calso before you commit, the price is published, and you can walk away inside 30 days of your first payment with your money back. Your existing number stays yours the whole time.

Questions we get on this comparison

Does Calso book directly into Now Book It or SevenRooms?+

No. Calso answers the call, takes the caller's details and what they want, and passes it to you. Someone still enters the booking. Sadie's Reserves tier does write into Now Book It, SevenRooms, OpenTable and Libro, so if that is what you are buying, that is the honest recommendation.

Can I run both?+

Nothing stops you, but on one phone line it would be unusual, and we would not recommend paying twice for the same call. The sensible split is Sadie for a venue whose problem is reservations and whose booking system it integrates with, and Calso for a venue whose problem is the phone plus everything behind it.

What does Sadie cost?+

Sadie publishes tiers on its own pricing page, and Now Book It quotes a bundle per venue. Sadie's pricing page is linked at the foot of this page so you can check the current figures yourself rather than take a competitor's word for a competitor's price.

Can I hear Calso before deciding?+

Yes. There is a live voice demo in the browser at calso.com.au/talk. No signup, no phone number, and you can ask it to take a booking or grill it on how it works.
